Evaluation Q4 (coursework)

How did you use media technology in the research and planning, construction, and evaluation stages?

Research and planning.
Weebly.
For the majority of the course I have used Weebly to keep my work and my groups work on. When we made our group page we split up the work into menus. Weebly enabled us to type up our work, embed videos, and in images, and turn the images into slideshows.
The main advantage of using Weebly was that we were able to keep all of out work organised. This meant that instead of searching for the work for a long time we could simply go onto our blog to find it. As we had used Weebly in AS we were already familiar with it so we found it easy to use in order to present our work,

Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Safari.

PC only                                    PC and Mac                                   Mac only

During the course, depending what computer or laptop we were working on, we used one of these three browsers. When working on windows we use Internet Explore or Google Chrome, and when using a Mac we used Safari or Google Chrome. There wasn't any major difference between the three browsers, which mad them all easy to use. The only difference was that not all of the browsers are available on Windows and Mac.

Prezi.

For the research and planning we had to think of different ways of presenting our work. One of the ways we did this was by using Prezi.

Press allowed us to create more creative powerpoint instead of creating simple ones on Powerpoint. Prezi allowed us to add in images and videos. Similarly to Weebly we had also used Prezi at AS so found it rather easy to use when putting our work onto it.

Blogger.

Similary to Weebly, we also used Blogger to put our work onto. The only difference was that we used Blogger to put our individual contribution from each piece of work onto. We found it a bit hard to use at first when it came to adding in the background, but soon it became easier to use. We also used it to type up notes for the exam. Blogger also made it easy to organise our work as it had them organised month by month so it was easier to find our work.

YouTube.

YouTube was very important to the research and planning. YouTube was where we went for our inspiration when deciding the storyline of our horror trailer. Without YouTube it would've been very hard for us to watch a trailer without going to the cinema to see the actual film.

We also used YouTube when it came to uploading our trailers. All we had to do was create an account, and the upload the trailer. After it had been processed we were able to view it.

Mac and Windows.

During the planning and research we either used a Mac or Windows PC. Both were easy to use when it came to using them whether it was for saving work, using the internet etc. We used Windows for the majority of our work and used Macs more specifically for using Final Cut Pro.

iCloud and Office 365.

During the course if we were unable to use a memory stick we had to use some form of mail in order to send our work. The main ones we used were iMail and Office 365. Both were simple to use as they are both rather similar and easy to use when creating a new e-mail.

IMDb

During the research and planning we had to look at information of supernatural/paranormal films such as there target audience. The main way we did this was by using IMDb. The main way we did this was by looking at the user ratings. Going by this we could see whether Males or Females preferred the film and what age group liked it the best. This made it easier to find our target audience as we could use information from several films instead of having to go out and ask people, which allowed us to get a wide range of opinions and save a lot of time.

Construction of the magazine and poster.
Photoshop.

Photoshop was a key part to the project. This was used when we needed to make the magazine and the poster. This was the application that had all of the tools that we needed in order to design  the magazine and poster such as the magic wand tool when it came to editing the background and the main image. The eyedropper tool for making sure that the colours of the text are the same. Also the zoom tool for when we had to edit specific areas such as the eyes with the brush tool.

Overall, Photoshop was a very useful application over the project and was easy to use as we had used it in AS.

Cannon camera.

Before we made the actual magazine and poster we had to go an take photos in the green room so that we had an image for the poster and magazine. At first we did struggle a bit with the camera as we had little experience with it but as time went on we became more comfortable with using it. The camera was very good as the pictures that we took in the green room came out in very good quality.

Sandisk camera memory card.

After we had taken the photos we needed a way to get them onto the computer. The easiest way to do this was by using the Sandisk camera memory card. This made it very simple as the phots we took go automatically onto the card. Then all we needed to do was to insert the memory card into the back of the Mac and just select the photos the we needed. The only problem is that sometimes if we needed to upload a large amount it was very time consuming. Overall, the Sandisk memory card did make it very easy to upload our work onto the Mac.

Importance of health and safety.
Whilst we were out taking photos we had to make sure that health and safety was taken into account and was our number one priority. We had to make sure that whilst in the green room that everyone involved knew the hazards such as tripping over the tripod. Also we had to make sure that the wires were in a safe place in order to make sure that nobody tripped over them. These safety procedures were needed to make sure that nobody was hurt.

Mac and Windows.

As with the research and planning the construction of the magazine and poster were done using either a Mac or Window. There wasn't any difference between them when it came to using Photoshop as both had the same version which made it easy for us to familiarise ourselves with the application.

1001 fonts

During the construction of the magazine and the poster we had to use professional fonts instead of using the normal ones that were already on Photoshop. The main site that we used for this was 1001 fonts.
The site has a very wide range of fonts so when it came to searching for "scratched" fonts we weren't disappointed as they had a large amount of options. It was very easy to do as all we needed to do was to type in the words we needed, saved the image, and the put them into Photoshop.
